AI-code assistants are here to stay. The two major players are Copilot from GitHub and CodeWhisperer from AWS.

Currently, CodeWhisperer has a free preview period, and Copilot ended its period on Aug 22nd. I’m assuming CodeWhisperer will have a pay-per-usage model similar to the rest of the AWS Services.

I’ve been using both assisting for a couple of months on Visual Studio Code, and they are both pretty good. It is hard to tell which one is better, so it is critical for both assistants to publish a roadmap or rollout features that their competitors can’t match.

In that sense, CodeWhisperer has a considerable advantage over Copilot. The AWS Services ecosystem and certainly far more extensive than Github’s.
